Shelter & Care: Building Trust Through Everyday Kindness
In Shelter & Care placements, the most valuable contribution is often quiet and consistent: showing up, listening, and supporting daily routines with dignity. Connection grows through small, dependable moments.
Care is relational
Children and care teams notice reliability. Reading together, joining approved games, helping with organised activities, and offering calm encouragement can make a day feel safer and more hopeful.
Follow the care team
Local staff know the children, house rules, and safeguarding expectations best. Volunteers work under guidance, never unsupervised, and treat personal information and photographs with care.
Give without creating pressure
Gifts and special activities should be discussed with the team first. The goal is to support belonging and wellbeing without creating expectations that cannot be sustained after a volunteer leaves.
